Poland Scholarships for Nepali Students (2026)

Government, Erasmus and university scholarships that can fund a Nepali student's degree in Poland — coverage, eligibility and how to apply.

SAStudy Abroad from Nepal Counseling TeamJun 22, 2026Reviewed by Ashish Agrawal

Poland is already one of the most affordable EU destinations, and scholarships can make it cheaper still — sometimes free. Funding ranges from government programmes run by NAWA (the National Agency for Academic Exchange) that waive tuition and pay a monthly stipend, to EU-wide Erasmus Mundus awards and university rector's discounts. This guide explains the main options open to Nepali students, what each covers, who qualifies, and how to apply.

One important note up front: eligible-country lists for government scholarships change every year. Nepal's inclusion in some NAWA programmes has varied between cycles, so you must always check the current official call on nawa.gov.pl before assuming you qualify. For the bigger picture, read our Study in Poland guide for Nepali students and our overview of scholarships for Nepali students.

Stefan Banach NAWA Scholarship

The Banach programme is Poland's flagship government scholarship, run jointly by NAWA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Polish Aid. It funds full-time second-cycle (master's) study in Polish or English at public universities.

  • Coverage: exemption from tuition at public universities, a monthly stipend of about PLN 2,500 (approx. NPR 87,500/mo), and a travel allowance. Some tracks fund a preparatory Polish-language year first.
  • Eligibility: citizens of the countries listed in the current call (a set list of nations covered by Polish Aid), strong academic record, master's level only.
  • Important: the eligible-country list is fixed each year in the official call, and Nepal has not appeared in every recent cycle — you must confirm Nepal's status in the current call before applying.

Check the current call, deadline, and eligible-country list on the official Banach NAWA programme page.

Ignacy Lukasiewicz NAWA Scholarship

The Lukasiewicz programme targets students from selected developing countries pursuing master's degrees in engineering, technical, agricultural, and natural sciences at Polish public universities. It typically covers tuition-free study plus a monthly stipend. As with Banach, eligibility is country-specific and set in each year's call, so verify Nepal's status on the official Lukasiewicz NAWA programme page before you apply.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degrees (EMJMDs) are EU-funded programmes delivered by consortia of universities, often including a Polish partner. They are among the most generous awards available to Nepali students:

  • Coverage: full tuition, a monthly living stipend, and travel/installation costs.
  • Eligibility: open to students worldwide, including Nepal; admission is to the joint programme, which is highly competitive and merit-based.
  • How it works: you study in two or more countries and earn a joint or multiple degree.

Because these are EU-wide and not Poland-specific, they are a reliable funding route even if a NAWA programme is closed to Nepal in a given year.

University Rector's & Merit Scholarships

Most Polish universities offer their own awards to strong international applicants — rector's scholarships, merit discounts, early-bird tuition reductions, and need-based support. These are usually partial (a percentage off tuition) rather than full, but they are the most accessible option because almost every Nepali applicant can target at least one. Check the international admissions page of each university on your shortlist, and apply early — many discounts reward early or first-instalment payment.

How to Apply for Poland Scholarships

  1. Confirm eligibility first. Read the current official call and check Nepal's status and the deadline before investing time.
  2. Build a strong academic file. Most awards are merit-based — your transcripts, CV, and a sharp motivation letter matter most.
  3. Prepare your English proof. Have IELTS or an equivalent ready; see our IELTS preparation guide.
  4. Apply to the programme and the scholarship. For NAWA and Erasmus Mundus you apply to both the degree and the funding, often on separate portals.
  5. Meet every deadline. Government calls have hard cut-offs (often spring for an autumn start) — late files are rejected automatically.
  6. Get your documents in order. See our application process guide for Nepal-specific paperwork.
