What Happens in a Guidance Session
A guidance session at Study Abroad from Nepal is not a sales pitch. It is a structured, 45-60 minute consultation designed to give you a clear understanding of your study abroad options and a concrete plan of action. Every session follows our 5-step process, which has been refined over 18 years and more than 1,500 student consultations.
Step 1: Understanding Your Profile (10-15 minutes)
Your counselor begins by understanding who you are. This is not a quick scan of your grades — it is a thorough review of your academic background, your English proficiency level, your work experience (if any), your career aspirations, and your family's financial capacity. We ask detailed questions because the quality of our recommendation depends on the quality of information we have. The more honest and specific you are about your situation, the better guidance we can provide.
Step 2: Assessing Your Options (10-15 minutes)
Based on your profile, your counselor identifies which countries, universities, and programs are realistic and beneficial for you. This is where our experience makes a difference. We know which universities accept students with a 2.5 GPA, which countries are most affordable for a family with a specific budget, and which programs lead to the strongest career outcomes in your field. We present 3-5 options, explaining the trade-offs of each.
Step 3: Financial Planning (5-10 minutes)
We review the estimated costs for your preferred options and discuss how your family can fund the education. This includes tuition, living expenses, visa fees, test preparation costs, and travel. We also identify scholarship opportunities you may qualify for and discuss education loan options available at Nepali banks. The goal is to ensure that you and your family have a realistic financial picture before committing to any path.
Step 4: Timeline and Roadmap (5-10 minutes)
Your counselor maps out a personalized timeline covering every step of the process: when to take your English proficiency test, when to submit university applications, when to prepare financial documents, when to apply for your visa, and when to expect departure. This timeline becomes your roadmap — a step-by-step plan that eliminates guesswork and ensures you never miss a critical deadline.
Step 5: Questions and Next Steps (5-10 minutes)
The final portion of the session is yours. Ask anything — about specific universities, visa interview tips, accommodation options, part-time work rights, or whatever concerns you. We answer every question with honesty and specificity. If we do not know the answer, we will research it and follow up with you.
What to Bring to Your Session
To get the most out of your guidance session, we recommend bringing:
- Academic transcripts (marksheets from +2, bachelor's, or highest completed level)
- English test scores (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or PTE — if you have already taken a test)
- A rough budget estimate — how much can your family invest in your education? An honest number helps us give realistic advice.
- Your career goals — even a rough idea of what field or industry you want to enter helps us match you to the right programs
- Questions — write down anything you want to ask so you do not forget during the session
If you do not have all of these ready, that is completely fine. We can still give you valuable general guidance and tell you exactly what to prepare for a detailed follow-up.
What Our Students Say About Their Sessions
"I went to 3 other consultancies before Study Abroad from Nepal. They all just asked which country I wanted and handed me a price list. Study Abroad from Nepal was the first one that actually asked about my goals and my GPA and gave me honest advice. They told me my GPA was too low for the universities I was targeting and helped me find ones where I actually had a chance. I am now studying at Youngstown State University in Ohio." — Suman S., USA
"As parents, we did not understand the process at all. The counselor at Putalisadak office sat with our entire family and explained everything — the costs, the timeline, the visa process. They did not rush us or pressure us. We left feeling confident that our son was in good hands." — Mr. Bhattarai, Parent, UK
"I had a 3-year gap after my bachelor's degree and 2 other consultancies told me it would be a problem. Study Abroad from Nepal helped me frame the gap positively in my application and I got my Australian visa without any issues." — Aarati T., Australia
More Success Stories from Sessions
"I came to Study Abroad from Nepal with an IELTS score of 5.5 and no idea where to start. My counselor did not just tell me to retake the test — she helped me identify universities in the USA that accept Duolingo instead, saving me months of preparation time and NPR 21,000 in test fees. I scored 115 on Duolingo within 2 weeks and got admitted to my first-choice university." — Rajan K., USA
"My first session was in January 2025. The counselor created a month-by-month timeline for my Fall 2025 intake to Australia. Every time I felt overwhelmed, I checked the timeline and knew exactly what to do next. I received my Australian visa in 4 weeks with no complications." — Priya M., Australia
"We had property in a rural area that 2 banks rejected as collateral for an education loan. The Study Abroad from Nepal team suggested we approach a different bank and helped us prepare the documentation. The loan was approved within 12 days. Without that guidance, my son might have missed his intake entirely." — Mr. Shrestha, Parent, Canada
Every student's journey is different. Whether you are a high-achieving student targeting a Fulbright scholarship, a family navigating the education loan process for the first time, or a student with a gap year who has been told their chances are slim, our counselors have seen your situation before and know how to help.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Session
How long is the guidance session?
A typical session takes 45-60 minutes. If your situation is complex (previous visa rejection, study gap, unusual academic background), it may take slightly longer. We do not cut sessions short.
Is it really free?
Yes. 100% free, no hidden charges, no obligation to sign up for our services. We believe every student deserves the chance to understand their options before making any commitment.
Can I bring my parents?
We encourage it. The study abroad decision is a family decision in Nepal. Having parents present ensures everyone is on the same page about costs, timelines, and expectations. Our counselors are accustomed to working with families and will address parent-specific concerns directly.
Which office should I visit?
Visit whichever is most convenient for you. All 3 offices — Putalisadak, Tinkune, and Koteshwor — provide the same quality of service and the same experienced counselors. Our Putalisadak office is the largest and has the most counselors available at any given time.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome, but we strongly recommend booking in advance using the form below. This ensures we have a counselor available for you and that your session is not interrupted.
What if I am not ready to apply yet?
That is perfectly fine. Many of our students visit for their first session 12-18 months before their intended departure. Early planning is actually the best strategy. We will give you a timeline and tell you exactly when each step needs to happen.
Can I do the session online or by phone?
Yes. While we prefer in-person sessions, we understand that not everyone can visit our offices. Call +977-9861293812 or email info@studyabroadfromnepal.com to schedule a remote consultation.
