Finland Scholarships for Nepali Students (2026)
Government and university scholarships open to Nepali students — coverage, eligibility, and how to apply.
Scholarships are the single biggest reason Finland is more affordable than its tuition suggests. By law, Finnish universities must offer scholarship opportunities to fee-paying international students, and in practice most award 50% or 100% tuition waivers decided automatically at admission. On top of that, the national Finland Scholarshipgives many first-year non-EU master's students a full tuition waiver plus a EUR 5,000 grant. For a strong Nepali applicant, the real cost of a Finnish degree can be a fraction of the sticker price.
This guide covers the main scholarships open to Nepali students, what each one covers, who qualifies, and exactly how to apply. All NPR figures use an approximate rate of EUR 1 ≈ NPR 150 and are labelled approx. For the wider picture, read the full study in Finland overview and our list of scholarships for Nepali students.

The Finland Scholarship (National Award)
The Finland Scholarship is a national award coordinated by the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) and offered by participating universities. It is the flagship scholarship for non-EU/EEA students starting an English-taught master's degree.
- Coverage: 100% tuition fee waiver for the first academic year plus a EUR 5,000 (approx. NPR 7.5 Lakh) one-off grant toward relocation and living costs.
- Year two: the tuition waiver and the EUR 5,000 grant can be renewed for the second year if you complete at least 55 credits during your first year (confirm the exact rule at your university).
- Eligibility: non-EU/EEA citizens, liable to pay tuition, admitted to a participating two-year master's programme as a first-year student.
- How to apply: usually no separate form — you are considered automatically when you apply for the master's through Studyinfo.fi by the joint application deadline.

University-Specific Scholarships
University of Helsinki Scholarship
Helsinki awards 50% or 100% tuition fee waivers to top international master's applicants who pay tuition. Selection is merit-based and decided at admission, and some students also receive a separate living-cost grant. No separate application is usually required.
Aalto University Scholarship
Aalto offers 50% or 100% tuition waivers to outstanding non-EU/EEA bachelor's and master's applicants, awarded automatically based on the strength of your application. Given Aalto's reputation in technology, business, and design, these are competitive.
Tampere International Scholarship
Tampere grants 50% to 100% tuition fee waivers to high-achieving non-EU/EEA degree students, with extra bursaries for the strongest candidates. Selection is merit-based and tied to your admission application.
Oulu, Turku & LUT Awards
The University of Oulu offers early-payment discounts in year one and tuition waivers in later years for students who meet academic progress requirements. Turku and LUT similarly offer merit-based 50-100% tuition waivers. These universities also tend to have lower base tuition, so the combined effect can be very affordable.

How to Apply for a Finland Scholarship
- Choose a programme and university that offers scholarships for your level and field.
- Prepare your documents early — academic transcripts, degree certificates, an English test score, and (where required) a motivation letter and CV.
- Apply via Studyinfo.fi within the joint application window (usually early January for autumn intake). Most scholarships need no separate form.
- Meet the deadline. Late applicants are typically excluded from scholarship consideration, so apply well before the cut-off.
- Check your offer letter — your admission decision usually states whether you received a tuition waiver and any grant.
