Why Study in Finland

Top Reasons to Choose Finland

World-Renowned Education System

Finland is globally famous for the quality of its education, from school level to university. Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences (UAS) deliver internationally recognised, research-driven degrees with a strong focus on independent thinking, problem-solving, and practical skills.

Generous, Often Full-Tuition Scholarships

Most Finnish universities award merit scholarships covering 50% or 100% of tuition, decided automatically at admission. The Finland Scholarship adds a full first-year tuition waiver plus a EUR 5,000 relocation grant for many non-EU/EEA master's students — making the real cost far lower than the sticker price.

2-Year Post-Study Job Search Permit

After completing your degree, you can apply for a residence permit to look for work or start a business, granted for up to two years. During this period you can work without restriction in any field while you search for a graduate job, per the Finnish Immigration Service (migri.fi).

Strong Tech, Engineering & Innovation Economy

Finland is a global innovation hub — home to Nokia, a thriving game industry (Supercell, Rovio), clean energy, and a deep ICT and engineering sector. Graduates in technology, data, design, and engineering find solid demand, especially around Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, and Oulu.

Safe, Happy & High-Trust Society

Finland is consistently ranked the world's happiest country and one of the safest. Clean cities, reliable public services, low corruption, and a calm pace of life make it an easy, secure place for Nepali students to settle and focus on their studies.

English-Taught Degrees & Gateway to the EU

Finland offers hundreds of bachelor's and master's programmes taught entirely in English, so you do not need Finnish to start. As an EU member, your Finnish degree and work experience open doors across the wider European job market.

Work Rights

Work Rights in Finland

During Studies

Nepali students on a residence permit for studies can work alongside their studies, with the working time averaging about 30 hours per week across term time (a 2025 reform adjusted the weekly limit — confirm the current figure on migri.fi). There is no fixed weekly cap during official holiday periods, as long as the yearly average stays within the rules.

After Graduation

After graduating, you can apply for a residence permit to look for work or to start a business, granted for up to two years. During this permit you can work without restriction in any field while you search for a graduate job. Once you find qualifying employment, you can move to a work-based A permit, and a continuous-permit path can later lead toward permanent residence.

Post-Study Visa

Post-study job-search residence permit: up to 2 years (applied for within five years of your student permit expiring).

Before applying to universities in Finland, you will need to demonstrate English proficiency. Most universities in Finland accept multiple test formats. Review the English proficiency tests for study abroad to compare IELTS, PTE, Duolingo, and TOEFL side by side, including country-specific IELTS score requirements.
