Transcript Certificate in Nepal: How to Get Your TU Transcript for Study Abroad
Your academic transcript is the foundation of every study abroad application. This guide covers how to get transcripts from Tribhuvan University (TU), Kathmandu University (KU), and Pokhara University — including the new online portal, fees, required documents, and realistic timelines.
What Is a Transcript Certificate?
A transcript certificate is an official academic record issued by your university listing every subject you studied, the marks or grades you earned, and the credits you completed. It is the single most important academic document for studying abroad because universities and embassies use it to evaluate your academic qualifications.
Unlike your mark sheet or grade card, a transcript is a comprehensive document that covers your entire academic record at that institution. It is printed on security paper, carries the university's official seal, and is signed by the Controller of Examinations or Registrar. Foreign universities and immigration authorities consider transcripts the most reliable form of academic verification.
For Nepali students, the transcript is required at 2 stages: first when applying to foreign universities (for admission), and again when applying for the student visa. Without an official transcript, your application will not move forward.
How to Get a TU Transcript: Online Process (New)
Since April 2025, Tribhuvan University has moved its transcript application process online through the student portal.
- Visit the portal: Go to student.tuexam.edu.np — this is the official TU Online Certification and Examination portal launched on Baisakh 2, 2082 (April 14, 2025).
- Create an account or log in: Register using your TU exam symbol number and personal details. Verify your identity through the system.
- Select "Transcript" service: Navigate to the OCE (Office of the Controller of Examinations) services and select the transcript application option.
- Fill out the application form: Enter your program details, symbol number, year of passing, and personal information.
- Upload required documents: Scan and upload your mark sheets, citizenship certificate, and passport-sized photograph.
- Pay the fee online: Pay through the integrated payment system. Fees range from Rs 350 to Rs 1,700 depending on your level and system.
- Track your application: Use the portal to track the status of your transcript application.
- Collect or receive: Once processed, collect your transcript from OCE Balkhu or opt for delivery if available.
TU Transcript: Offline Application Process
If you prefer the offline process or face issues with the online portal, you can still apply in person.
- Visit the OCE (Office of the Controller of Examinations) at Balkhu, Kathmandu.
- Pick up the "Transcript" application form from the reception.
- Fill out the form completely with your exam details, symbol number, and program information.
- Go to Global IME Bank near OCE (Kirtipur or Balkhu branch) and deposit the applicable fee.
- Return to OCE and submit the filled application form along with the bank deposit slip at Room No. 1.
- Get the receipt and note your application tracking number.
- Return after 20-21 working days to collect your transcript.
TU Transcript Fee Structure
Fees depend on your academic level and whether your program follows the yearly or semester system.
| Level | Fee (NPR) |
|---|---|
| Intermediate (Yearly) | Rs 350 |
| Intermediate (Semester) | Rs 800 |
| Bachelor's (Yearly) | Rs 450 |
| Bachelor's (Semester) | Rs 1,700 |
| Master's | Available at OCE |
Processing Timeline: How Long Does It Take?
The standard processing time for a TU transcript is 20 to 21 working days from the date of application submission.
Online applications through the new portal may be processed faster, potentially within 2 weeks, as the digital system reduces manual verification steps. TU has also announced a long-term goal of providing transcripts within 24 hours of submission, but this is being implemented in phases and is not yet available for all programs.
We recommend applying for your transcript at least 2 months before your university application deadline to account for potential delays. During peak application seasons (January to March and July to September), processing times can extend beyond the standard timeline.
Required Documents for TU Transcript
- Completed application form (available online or at OCE)
- Original mark sheets or grade cards for all semesters/years
- Copy of citizenship certificate (Nagarikta)
- Bank voucher or online payment receipt
- 2 passport-sized photographs
- Photocopy of your TU exam admit card (if available)
Transcripts from Kathmandu University (KU)
KU has a more streamlined transcript process than TU, primarily because of its smaller student body and centralized administration.
- Visit the Registrar's Office at KU's Dhulikhel campus.
- Fill out the transcript request form.
- Submit copies of your mark sheets, citizenship certificate, and passport.
- Pay the applicable fee at the KU finance office.
- Processing typically takes 7 to 14 working days.
KU can also send transcripts directly to foreign universities via registered post if you provide the university's address and pay the mailing charges. This is helpful when universities require transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution.
Transcripts from Pokhara University
Pokhara University issues transcripts through its central examination division.
- Submit the transcript request form at the Examination Division at Pokhara University, Kaski.
- Attach photocopies of your mark sheets and citizenship certificate.
- Pay the fee at the university accounts section.
- Processing time is typically 10 to 15 working days.
Students outside Pokhara may be able to initiate the request through their affiliated college, though this adds time to the process.
Tips for a Smooth Transcript Process
- Start early. Apply for your transcript at least 2-3 months before you need it.
- Keep extra copies. Request 2-3 sets of transcripts because different universities and the visa application may each need one.
- Verify your details. Check your name spelling, date of birth, and grades on the transcript immediately upon receipt. Corrections take additional time.
- Sealed envelopes matter. Many foreign universities require transcripts in sealed, university-stamped envelopes. Request this when collecting your transcript.
- Digital copies. Some universities now accept digital transcripts sent via verified email. Ask TU if they can send a verified digital copy directly to your target university.
