Cost is the first question almost every Nepali family asks about MBBS abroad — and rightly so, because it is a six-year commitment. This guide gives approximate, clearly-labelled tuition ranges for the countries Nepali students choose most: China, Bangladesh, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Philippines.
Before the numbers, one honest disclaimer: every figure here is an approximate range, not a quote. MBBS fees vary widely between universities, change from year to year, and depend on the exchange rate when you pay. Use these ranges to plan a realistic budget, then confirm exact, current fees in writing with each university before deciding. This guide is a companion to our MBBS abroad pillar guide.
Cheapest Is Not Always Best Value
The lowest tuition means nothing if the college is not recognized by the Nepal Medical Council. A degree you cannot register in Nepal is the most expensive mistake of all. Always confirm NMC recognition and licensing before you compare prices.
How to Read These Numbers
When you compare MBBS costs, separate three different things. Mixing them up is the most common budgeting error Nepali families make.
- Tuition — the academic fee paid to the university each year. This is what most “MBBS cost” figures refer to.
- Living costs — hostel/accommodation, food, local transport, and personal expenses. These are separate and add up over six years.
- One-time and hidden costs — visa, air tickets, health insurance, admission/registration charges, and document/equivalence fees.
The ranges in the table below are total tuition for the full course in approximate NPR. Living costs are noted separately. NPR conversions are rounded and will shift with exchange rates.
MBBS Abroad Cost Comparison Table (Approximate, NPR)
| Country | Approx. total tuition | Approx. living / year | Course length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kyrgyzstan | approx. NPR 20–35 lakh | approx. NPR 1.5–3 lakh | 5 + 1 yr |
| Kazakhstan | approx. NPR 25–45 lakh | approx. NPR 2–3.5 lakh | 5 + 1 yr |
| China | approx. NPR 30–55 lakh | approx. NPR 2.5–4.5 lakh | 5 + 1 yr |
| Philippines | approx. NPR 30–50 lakh | approx. NPR 2.5–4.5 lakh | Pre-med + 4 yr MD |
| Russia | approx. NPR 35–60 lakh | approx. NPR 2–4 lakh | 6 yr |
| Georgia | approx. NPR 35–65 lakh | approx. NPR 3–5 lakh | 6 yr |
| Bangladesh | approx. NPR 40–70 lakh | approx. NPR 1.5–3 lakh | 5 yr + 1 yr internship |
All figures are approximate, rounded ranges for planning only, and were compiled from publicly available 2025–2026 information. Actual fees vary by university and intake year, and exchange rates fluctuate. Confirm current fees directly with the university before deciding.
Country-by-Country Notes for Nepali Students
China
English-medium MBBS is offered at universities listed by China's Ministry of Education for international students. Tuition is moderate and the standard structure is five years of study plus a one-year internship. China is a popular, well-developed option; read our dedicated MBBS in China guide for university types, English-medium details, and recognition caveats.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh is geographically close, culturally familiar, and offers reserved SAARC-quota seats for Nepali students at both government and private colleges. Tuition is often quoted in US dollars for the full course. Government SAARC seats can be more affordable than private colleges. See our MBBS in Bangladesh guide for the SAARC quota process.
Russia
Russian state universities offer six-year programs, many with English-medium tracks. Tuition is moderate, but factor in winter clothing and heating into living costs. Confirm the medium of instruction for clinical years.
Georgia
Georgia has grown popular for its European environment and English-medium six-year MD/MBBS programs. Living costs can be a little higher than the CIS average. As always, verify recognition before paying.
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan
These two Central Asian countries are typically the most budget-friendly, with lower tuition and lower living costs. They remain popular precisely because of affordability. Be especially careful to confirm Nepal Medical Council recognition, as quality varies widely between institutions.
Philippines
The Philippines uses a US-style system: a pre-medical bachelor course (often BS Biology) followed by a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD). Teaching is in English. The two-stage structure means budgeting for the pre-med years too.
Hidden Costs Families Forget to Budget
- MECEE-BL and NOC charges in Nepal before you depart.
- Visa fees, air tickets, and annual travel home.
- Health insurance and medical check-ups required by some countries.
- Document, translation, and equivalence-certificate fees on return.
- NMCLE preparation and exam-related costs once you are back in Nepal.

Funding Your MBBS: Loans and Scholarships
Most Nepali families fund MBBS abroad through a mix of savings and an education loan against property or fixed deposits. Full medical scholarships are rare, but partial tuition waivers and merit discounts do exist at some universities. Explore our scholarships hub and fully funded scholarships guide, and ask our counselors about country-specific options. Whatever the source, never release funds until recognition is confirmed.
